At Amigos Dental for Kids & Adults, we perform same-day tooth extractions for walk-in and emergency patients every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. No referral, no waiting weeks for an opening. Come in, we'll assess your tooth, and in most cases, we can take care of it on the same visit.

When Does a Tooth Need to Be Extracted?

Extracting a tooth is always a last resort — we'll explore every option to save it first. But in some situations, removal is the safest and most effective path forward. Common reasons for a tooth extraction include:
  • Severe Tooth Decay - When a cavity has progressed too far to be treated with a filling or crown, extraction may be the only option to relieve pain and prevent infection from spreading.
  • Dental Abscess or Infection - An infected tooth that can't be treated with a root canal or antibiotics may need to be extracted to stop the infection from spreading to surrounding teeth, gums, or jawbone.
  • Cracked or Broken Tooth - A tooth that is broken below the gumline or cracked in a way that can't be repaired structurally often needs to be removed.
  • Loose Tooth Due to Gum Disease - Advanced periodontal disease can cause significant bone loss, leaving teeth loose and unable to be stabilized. Extraction may be recommended to protect surrounding teeth.
  • Overcrowding - In some cases, a tooth may need to be removed to relieve crowding or to prepare for orthodontic treatment.
  • Impacted Tooth - A tooth that hasn't fully emerged through the gumline and is causing pain, pressure, or infection may need to be extracted.

What Happens During a Tooth Extraction at Amigos Dental

We understand that the idea of having a tooth removed can feel daunting. Here's exactly what the process looks like, so there are no surprises:

CONSULT

This is the first step in the full arch process. During this appointment, you will meet with your Dr. Kurt O. Bally DMD FICOI to discuss your needs and options for dental implants. The consultation will typically take about an hour. This first and free visit is $525 value.

RECORDS

Your dentist will take a series of records, including dental x-rays, 3D scans, and photographs. These records will be used to create a treatment plan and to fabricate your dental implants.

PRE-SURGICAL CONSULT

This appointment is held before the surgery to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure, as well as the recovery process. You will also have a chance to ask any questions you may have.

SURGERY

This is the procedure where the implants are placed into your jawbone. The surgery typically takes about 2 hours per jaw and is done safely with oral anesthesia. All patients leave with their new temporary teeth on the day of the surgery and will return within 1-2 weeks to have their first post-op visit and receive their fist implant prototype teeth. It is important to remain on a very soft diet after surgery and before receiving your first prototype.

PROTOTYPES

1-2 weeks after your surgery you will return to check your healing and receive your first set of implant prototype teeth that will be attached directly to your implants. We allow up to 3 versions of teeth during the healing process to ensure the dentist and patient is happy with the look and feel. As your implants heal your dentist will create a series of prototypes for your implant bridge. These prototypes will be used to test the fit and function of the bridge before it is permanently placed.

HEALING

The implants will need to heal for 4-6 months before the next step can be taken. Dr. Bally will also provide a night guard to help prevent excess pressure from going to your implants. As you heal you will remain on a soft diet.

PROTOTYPING AND VERIFICATION

Once the implants have healed, your dentist will create a final prototype of your dental bridge. This prototype will be verified to ensure that it is the correct size, shape, and color. Before authorizing the fabrication of your new zirconia implant smile.

DELIVERY

This is the appointment where your permanent dental bridge is placed. The procedure typically takes about 1 hour. It's a truly rewarding visit for everyone.

POST-DELIVERY CONSULT AND DOCUMENTATION

This appointment is held after your new zirconia implant smile is installed and your final night guard is given and instructions to maintain your smile are discussed. Final pictures, X-rays and video mark the end of your zirconia implant smile journey.

MAINTENANCE

Your zirconia implant smile will need to be maintained on a regular basis to ensure that it continues to function properly. This may include cleaning, adjustments, and checkups.

Examination & X-Ray

We'll examine the tooth and take an X-ray to assess its position, root structure, and the surrounding bone. This helps us determine the best approach and give you an accurate picture of what's involved.

Anesthesia

We'll apply a topical numbing gel before giving the local anesthetic injection, so that even the needle is as comfortable as possible. The area will be fully numb before we proceed — you'll feel pressure but not pain.

The Extraction

For a simple extraction, the tooth is gently loosened and removed. The process is typically quicker than most patients expect. We work carefully and efficiently to minimize discomfort.

Aftercare Instructions

Once the tooth is out, we'll place gauze over the site and give you detailed written aftercare instructions. We'll go over what to eat, what to avoid, signs to watch for, and how to manage any soreness at home.
Most simple extractions take 20–45 minutes from numbing to completion. More complex cases may take longer and we'll let you know in advance.

Replacing a Missing Tooth After Extraction

Depending on the location of the extracted tooth, replacement may be worth considering, both for function and to prevent surrounding teeth from shifting over time. At Amigos Dental for Kids & Adults, we offer dental bridges as a natural-looking, fixed tooth replacement option.
